     He attended Bates College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard Law School, receiving a BS and MS in Science from MIT and graduated summa cum laude from Harvard. He became law clerk to Judge Learned Hand of the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. He then served as a law clerk for Justice Felix Frankfurter of the United States Supreme Court. After an illustrious private career at Portland, Maine, he became Chief Justice of Maine's Supreme Judicial Court where he served for fifteen years. He retired on 28 Feb 1992. He was president of the Conference of Chief Justices of the United States during 1990-1991 and presided at the first meeting in the USA of the Conference of International Appelate Judges.

     She married Russell Joseph Aiello. Anne was born on 3 May 1935 at Akron, OH. She married Gregory P. Walter on 31 August 1957 at Maine.¹ Anne died on 27 March 1993 at West Chester, PA, at age 57.

     She married Clyde Nelson Sedgewick on 4 June 1957 at Corvallis, OR. Margot was granted a divorce from Clyde Nelson Sedgewick in 1959. She married David Jack Hanson on 27 March 1963 at Boise, ID.

     He married Merna Dee Brewer on 15 April 1966 at Crystal Lake, IL.

     He married Jeanette Louise Duvall on 15 July 1966 at Damascus, MO.

     He married Patricia Lee Tyler on 15 June 1957 at Ft. Belvoir, VA.¹

     She married Thomas A. Graham III on 9 October 1958 at Lutherville, MD.

     Madaline was born on 11 August 1935 at Winchester, MA. She married Roy Christian Syvertson on 17 September 1955 at Wilmington, MA. Madaline Frances Emery died on 25 November 2020 at S. Hampton, NH, at age 85.

     She married Leo Vincent Brennick on 12 September 1959 at Wilmington, MA. She married John W. M. Biggar on 30 June 1971 at Chelmsford, MA.

     Eugenia was born on 16 February 1941 at Winchester, MA. She married William Joseph Rooney on 12 May 1962 at Seabrook, NH. She married Edward Everett White on 17 November 1967 at Wilmington, MA. Eugenia died on 27 March 1994 at Westford, MA, at age 53.

     He married Deborah Ann Foss on 3 August 1974 at S. Windham, NH.

     She married John Maxwell. She married Carlton R. Ming on 31 August 1974. Victoria was granted a divorce from Carlton R. Ming in July 1987 at Maine. Victoria Melzar married John Leslie Maxwell on 13 October 1990 at Maine.

     Alexandra was born on 10 January 1955 at Winchester, MA. She married Alan Kendall Briggs on 19 May 1990 at Boxford, MA. Alexandra Melzar died on 19 April 2014 at Winchester, MA, at age 59.

     She married Eugene Henry Gieda on 29 April 1978 at Boxford, MA.
