McKusick was buried at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, WV. He He was a graduate of Colby College and became a minister. He was a POW during the Civil War having served as a lieutenant in Co. H, 1st Maine Cavalry. Family tradition has it that he went west with his family after the war but became ill with asthma. He was advised to go east and settle on the highest mountain. He went to Wood Co., WV, and bought property on Bogle Ridge, Mineral Wells, the highest point in the county. This house is still (1992) standing. It is said that he became Superintendent of Schools and had a family of seven. Reference: 461. He was born on 3 August 1835 at Denmark, ME.
