Moses McKissick
M, b. 4 November 1781, d. 31 July 1826
Moses
McKissick was buried at Whiting Road Cemetery, Jordon, NY.
1 He He served in Capt. Alpheus Spring's Co., 2nd Reg., (Steele's) Mass. Militia, War of 1812. American Ancestry by Munsell has him Zebediah's son but that doesn't jibe with the 1790 census which has Zebediah with only one son (who would be William). Also, he was born long before Zebediah's marriage. The 1790 and 1800 censuses both support the conclusion that he is a son of Matthew's. Moses is on the Eaton, NH tax rolls of 1815 and 1816. He, along with three others, cleared and laid out the town of Jordon in 1817/18. He and Jeduthan Tabor are said to have built a 20 ton canal boat in 1824 about 1/2 mile south of the Maple Grove Cemetery. The boat was taken to Jordon to be completed and thence to Utica, NY where it was locked through to the Mohawk River and sold. The names of three of his children (Moses, Orrin and Caroline) are uncertain. They are listed on page 168 of Hudson and Mowhawk Valleys, edited by Cuyler Reynolds and pub. by Lewis Historical Publishing in 1911. Reference: 117. He was born on 4 November 1781 at Saco?, ME. He bought land in Saco on 15 Jan 1807 from J. Tapley and sold same to Nat Scammon on 23 May 1810 having moved to Porter. It is not certain that he is a son of Matthew but the conclusion is supported by both the 1790 and 1800 censuses. Aaron laid out and founded the town of Waterloo (Now Polk, PA) in 1839-40. In 1839 he built the Waterloo House in which he lived until his death. Reference: 119. He was born circa 1785 at Saco?, ME.
