There is a plaque depicting his store in Stillwater that commemorates the founding of Minnesota. It is located in the business section of modern Stillwater. He was a captain in the 8th Minnesota Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was born on 6 March 1825 at Cornish, ME.
